Cieza Market

We decided to go to Cieza and its market today, and it was very good with loads of stalls with a good variety of products, there must have been at least 30 fruit and vegetable stalls with lovely fresh produce, and very very cheap, potatoes were 30 cents a kilo, tomatoes on the vine 70 cents a kilo, large lettuce 3 for a euro, cherries and small plums 1 euro a Kilo, i would say it is as good if not better than Guardamar market.
We had a walk round part of Cieza after we had shopped and it is a lovely town with many of the streets tree lined and shady and quite a few pedestrian only areas.

In Sheeps clothing

clothes
If you spend any time in Spain you may well notice the habit of keeping your dressing gown on. What do I mean? Well its very commonplace to see your average Spanish housewife in her dressing gown until lunch time. No they are not all late getting out of bed. It’s a habit that’s easy to get into and this time of year, when the mornings can be chilly indoors, it’s a perfect way of being cosy. So you wear you nice snugly housecoat while you do the housework, water the plants, see the kids off to school, take out the rubbish, walk the dog even. Its one of those things that brings a smile to your face and makes you think it could only be Spain. If you want to join the club try your local market for a bargain in the housecoat/dressing gown line. Me I've got three!

Market in the streets,and Guardamar.

Rojales market was always in the Rojales streets untill the new market area/car park by the river was created, but at this time of year for the period of the Moors and Christians it has moved back into the streets again for the next few weeks, many people prefer it and think there is a better atmosphere. It makes it interesting as you have to find your favourite stalls all over again.
Meanwhile at Guardamar Del Segura renovation of the town hall and the streets around it are causing havoc as roads are closed that are normally major routes to the tourist areas and beaches, and it is quite easy to end up on a one way system going the opposite direction to where you want to be. How long this will go on, who knows but what are the town hall officials thinking of, arranging this work at time of year, that there is a major influx of visitors.

Guardamar sand sculptures

sand castle
We went for a walk and a beer down to Guardamar last night, the summer market has started to fill up, there are quite a few stalls. The beach was very quietand the sea calm, but i had a bit of a paddle and the sea is warming up, im sure by this time last year i had been in for a swim! The Sand sculptures are in place for the season, the heavy rain yesterday lunch seemed to have missed Guardamar otherwise it would have been a lot of hard work undone.

British Indoor Market

A new British indoor market has opened on the road between Rojales and Formentera, the market hall was formally the alumininium window factory next to the Paint shop, when we visited today there was around 20 stalls, these comprised of food and household products, UK brand clothes, antiques and collectables, fresh fruit and vegetables, Meat and pies, Home made cakes, greetings cards, Videos and DVDs, second hand books, A Dutch food stall, Furniture, British sweets and jewellery, Jacuzzis, electrical goods and Aqua massage, Tea and coffee is available.
The Market is open every weekday from 10:00 - 14:00.
Its clear that someone has gone to a lot of trouble to set up this venture and we hope that it remains a success.

Market Time

It does not seem to matter what time of year, there always seems to be a great variety of fruit and vegetables at good prices on the Rojales market, we find now that we manage to buy enough to last us the whole week for no more than 10 Euros. Our favourite stall is always busy with people from many different countries. The staff on the stall have no problem communicating and are always ready for a laugh and a joke.

The Melon Season

It only seems a short time since the farmers were putting the melon seedlings into the ground, in fact last time i walked round the field near us, the seedlings were only 6 inches high, yesterday i went on the same walk and the plants are lush and full of fruit with melons the size of footballs. There are fields full of creatures like this, only hope the farmers get a good market for them, as the most of the orange crop this year was left on the trees to rot.
