Fiesta aftermath

Now the 6th January is behind us, Guardamar has really quietened down, nearly all the red carpets have been taken up from outside the shops, and people are obviously trying to recover from the festive binge, our neighbour told us, its been party, party, party since the 25th December and now he needs a holiday, Sunday there were plenty of people on the beach having a stroll because it was another lovely warm day, there was even one or people having a quick dip in the sea, we have been extremely lucky with the weather here considering the UK are having yet more snow.

Holiday let clampdown

There is a new clampdown on property owners in Spain who let to tourists and are not registered with their local tourism authority, and they will face fines of up to €30,000, A community that has a holiday let within it can also be subject to large fines, this creates a situation where a whole community will be pay the penalty for one property owner breaking the law.
The Spanish authorities are researching websites and checking paperwork in an attempt to stamp out unregistered letting. Neighbours are even reporting people to the authorities.
The reason many people do not register their holiday lets is to avoid taxes, and the charges made by the tourist authority to register and let through them are high.
Properties that are let on a lease for periods of longer than 6 weeks are not regarded as holiday lets and do not need to be registered with the tourist board.
I, as president of our community will be meeting with the administrators of our community to take measures to ensure all owners are registered.

Whats happened to the weather

Well its early April and there is a cold wind blowing and it is cloudy and overcast, not what we are expect this time of year, the past few weeks we have had periods of rain for several days running, cold gale force winds and cloudy skies. In the North there has been floods and deep snow. Easter is nearly here and the holiday makers will be arriving, if it stays like this there will be a lot of glum faces around and chemical tans going back to the UK.
