What lies beneath

The Big reveal today. What with the weather warming up nicely we thought it was time to take the winter cover off the swimming pool. If you live in Spain you have no doubt seen some grim looking pools by the end of the winter. public pools in particular tend to be left with water but no cover, can understand that really it would be quite an expense to have a cover that worked on a really big pool. We picked our winter cover up second hand at a bargain price and its been a good investment. John had kept an eye on the water that lay beneath the cover but we were really pleased when we did the reveal. The water was really very clean. John did a sterling job and within a couple of hours the pool looked almost inviting, give or take a few degrees more warmth in the water! Suzy the cat was a little confused to start with. During the winter she has made it her business to walk on water, well on pool cover. That cat is quite crazy you know. For some reason she just loves to drink pool water, no amount of bowls of fresh clean aqua prevents her from have a little tipple from the pool. So she can no longer "walk" on the pool, she can now be seen dipping a paw then licking off the water at the edge. What a strange moggy eh?

Cooling pool

Here we are in the middle of October and still swimming in the pool at least twice a day, at night the air certainly is a lot cooler and this is cooling the water a bit, but because we have a solar cover on the pool, the sun in the day is warming the pool water up to a certain extent I do think we are also aclimatising to the water temperature as it must be dropping slightly all the time now, the question is how long will it be before we find it just too chilly to be enjoyable.

End of August already

Wow what a busy month, we have been very busy tidying up the garden and planning the layout since the pool has been finished and also have changed our car now for a Peugeot 306 Break, which is a little bigger than the Citreon Saxo, it was really a good idea as we plan to drive up to the UK in October/November and the saxo was getting a little tired to say the least..... The August weather has been typical and really it has been too hot to do much between midday and 17:00 the temperature being in the mid thirties everyday, though yesterday we had some tremendous thunderstorms Mary has been making ginger beer which well chilled has kept us well refreshed. We are off to Valencia and then Madrid next week for a few days to experience life in the Big city.

Concreting the pool

Last night i met a few of the neighbours as i had to tell them the road would be blocked for several hours. So bright and early this morning the machinery and ready mix concrete lorries arrived to gunite the swimming pool, the process is that the concrete is power sprayed over the steel reinforcing. A noisy and smelly process but another step further.

Celebration

Yesterday afternoon was the celebration of David and Adrians 1st year at their house just outside Blanca, as the crow flies they are about 500 metres from us, but by road its about a 1.5 kilometres, they have had a lot of work done and its certainly starting to take shape, although there is still plenty to do,-always is though..... they have had many ups and downs with this property - poorly done work having to be redone and work not completed. so hopefully all is now on the up. So about 15-20 of us celebrated their first year with plenty to drink and eat, a bathe in the pool and some great company,it was nice to make some new friends, Of course the weather was perfect for being in and around the pool relaxing.

Whats happening to the pool?

Workmen have descended upon the la Zenia swimming pool, several tons of sand, gravel and cement have been delivered and a digger and truck arrived this morning, the workmen then proceeded to dig up all the palm trees and took them away. Will update when i get the latest news.

The Swimming Pool

I´ve mentioned the pool ...It is actually a Municipal pool, the great advantage it is looked after by the Town hall, If it was a community pool the property owners in the community would have to pay for the upkeep, which could be quite expensive over the year, (more than half the owners do not even want to pay their normal community charges) The Community would also have the responsibility of running it, This would mean having a management committee and everything that goes with that!
The disadvantage is that is is only open times the town hall allow that is --- 11.00 A.M to 2.00P.M. and 5.00P.M to 8.00P.M between the months of June and September.
We hardy brits do like to swim earlier and later in the year, but we can always go to the sea.
