Fiesta paella


Last Saturday as part of the Fiesta celebrations paella was order of the day, two large paellas, one fish and one meat were brought into the Los Palacios Square and served up by Pedro and his team, Extra tables and chairs filled the square and a large crowd of local people turned up to enjoy a drink and delicious meal, There was not a scrap of food left. A large stage had been set up in the square and in the evening the entertainment was live music from female vocalists, electric organ and guitar, with a short interlude for the Firework display, although we did not stay up, apparently the live music and dancing finished around 2:00 and continued with a disco untill the break of dawn. Noticably the pool and bar were closed for the Sunday for the majority to recover.
Sunday At 14:00 was the official end of this Fiesta, Marked by a barrage of exploding rockets.
The swimming pool in the Square closes permanently for this year next Sunday the 13th September.

The San Miquel San Roque Fiesta

The San Miquel San Roque Fiesta started on the 15th August and in Formentera there have been fireworks, parades, discos, live music, bullfighting and much more going on, then on Friday the 4th September the fiesta continues in Los Palacios, mainly at the Swimming pool square where on Friday night there will be a film (Mamma Mia), Saturday - Childrens bouncy castles and games during the day and in the evening, music and dancing and the usual fantastic firework display, and on Sunday, Solemn mass will be held in the social centre at 13:00 the grand finale of "Great Thunder" (fireworks) to end the Fiesta.

Valencia Day


Today everywhere is closed, The Valencia Region celebrates its fiesta, in commemoration of the entrance of King Jaime I into the city of Valencia, which took place in the year 1238, The celebrations started last night with a massive firework display, part of the international firework festival, today the Valencia flag is lowered from the balcony of the Valencia town hall and the civic procession starts, heading through the streets to the cathedral. Later returning to the town hall and another round of explosions. It is also the fiesta of Sant Dionís, This saint is traditionally considered as the patron saint of lovers and there is the custom of giving the gift of a Mocaorà, a silken scarf containing marzipan pastries handcrafted by Valencia’s confectioners.
